Speech Therapy Services
Susan Raney Speech Therapy is a niche practice, meaning we only treat certain, specialized areas of speech and language. Our specializations include late talkers and language delays, autism and gestalt language processing, and augmentative & alternative communication (AAC). If you are interested in speech therapy outside of these areas, we are happy to provide recommendations for speech therapists in the Greater New Orleans area who may be a better fit.
We Specialize in:
-
We use play-based, child-led therapy that focuses on supporting and improving language development through meaningful interactions.
-
We specialize in working with children who use echolalia and scripts to communicate. During child-led activities, we acknowledge and honor current scripts while also modeling new language to help children move through the Natural Language Acquisition (NLA) stages — from echolalia to novel, original language.
Speech therapy for autistic children also involves connection over compliance, honoring sensory needs, and following special interests.
-
AAC may be necessary when children are unable to communicate through spoken words. AAC is useful by giving your child a reliable way to communicate and it does not prevent children from using spoken words (in fact, it may even help with spoken words).
If your child does not yet have an AAC device, but you think your child may benefit, we assist you in selecting a device, getting funding for the device, and using it throughout your child’s day.
